The University

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) is a member of Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCMC). Being the first technology university in Southern Vietnam, HCMUT is one of the largest universities in Vietnam with more than 200,000 alumni. The university is well-known for the quality of education and research in engineering and management areas.

Important Milestones

  • 1957: the National Technical Center was formed under Executive Order No.213-GD on June 29, 1957 by a combination of four technical, technological, and vocational schools, namely: the College of Civil Engineering, the College of Electrical Engineering, the Vietnam National College of Maritime Technology, and the College of Industrial Arts Engineering.
  • 1972: the National Technical Center changed its name to the National Technical Academy under Executive Order No.135SL/GD on September 15, 1972, including six members.
  • 1973: the National Technical Academy was disbanded, and became a member of Thu Duc Polytechnic University under the name of the Technology University.
  • 1976: the Technology University received its official name of Polytechnic University under Decision No.426/TTg on October 27, 1976.
  • 1996: the Polytechnic University changed its name to the University of Technology and became a member of VNU-HCMC under Decision No.1235/GD-DT on March 30, 1996.
  • 2001: the university received its present name of HCMUT under Decision No.15/2001/QD-TTg issued by the Prime Minister regarding reorganizing VNU-HCMC.

About SIM

School of Industrial Management – HCMC University of Technology was established in 1990 by Professor Pham Phu. Its mission is to provide high quality training and research in management in Vietnam.

SIM commits to creating intellectual value for society through the combination of knowledge creation activities (scientific research), knowledge transfer (training) and knowledge application (Consulting & Applications) in the field of management.

Facilities

HCMUT has two campuses and two dormitories:

» The main campus, located near to the center of Ho chi minh city, is the administrative center of HCMUT and home to 12 of its school/ faculties. Post graduate and high quality undergraduate training including foreign student training are conducted on the main campus. The main campus’s adddress is 268 Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Ward 14, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

» The second campus is located in Binh duong province, about one hour of driving from the main campus. Most of the training activities of the regular undergraduate programs are conducted on the second campus.

» The School of Industrial Management (SIM) is based in B10 building on the main campus. The school includes the main office (105B10), Simulation Laboratory (102B10), seminar room (201B10), Management Information System Department (103B10), Finance Department (104B10), Production & Operations Management Department (106B10), Marketing & Management Department (107B10)
